Biography

I was born in the Redwood City, California in 1987. I spent most of my life in the Bay Area or with family in Southern California. I come from an old Californian family and am of the 9th generation born in the state. I tend to be really in touch with my family and cultural roots, which tends to find its way into my work as well. In 2005, I was truly inspired by the work that was presented in Cheech Marin's exhibition, Chicano Visions, which included a body of work from various Chicano artists from around the United States. In that exhibition, I saw the work of my two favorite living artists, Valadez and Yepes. I connected to the work both visually and culturally. In 2006 I went on a study abroad program to learn more about the Spanish language and the culture. I lived in both Granada and Madrid, Spain. While I was there I fell in love with the art of Goya, Velasquez, and Dali. I was struck in amazement. Walking down the Moorish streets of Granada, I could feel as if history was alive and I was walking trough time. I was so inspired from my trip that I began to study art at my local junior college once I returned home. I then received a second dose of artistic inspiration when I moved to Colombia to teach. I found that everywhere I looked was inspiration. I was taken by the people, the beautiful landscapes, and the colors that decorated the towns. I continuously try to producing art that is truly connected to my own life through my background and life experiences.

Nací en la ciudad de Redwood, California en 1987. Pasé la mayor parte de mi vida en el área de la bahía o con la familia en el sur de California. Yo vengo de una antigua familia de California y soy de la novena generación nacida en el estado. Tiendo a ser realmente en contacto con mi familia y raíces culturales, que tiende a encontrar su camino en mi trabajo también. En 2005, yo estaba realmente inspirado por el trabajo que se presenta en la exposición de Cheech Marin, Visiones Chicanas, que incluía un conjunto de obras de varios artistas chicanos de todo los Estados Unidos. En esa exposición, vi la obra de mis dos artistas vivos favoritos, Valadez y Yepes. Me conecté a la obra visual y culturalmente. En 2006 me fui en un programa de estudio en el extranjero para aprender más sobre la lengua española y la cultura. He vivido tanto en Granada y Madrid, España. Mientras estuve allí me enamoré con el arte de Goya, Velázquez, y Dalí. Me llamó la atención en el asombro. Caminando por las calles moriscas de Granada, pude sentir como si la historia estaba vivo y yo estaba caminando a través de tiempo. Yo estaba tan inspirado de mi viaje que comencé a estudiar arte en mi colegio local una vez que regresé a casa. Entonces recibí una segunda dosis de inspiración artística cuando me mudé a Colombia para enseñar. Me pareció que en todas partes miré fue la inspiración. Me llevaron por el pueblo, los hermosos paisajes y los colores que decoraban las ciudades. Trato continuamente para producir arte que es verdaderamente conectado a mi propia vida a través de mis antecedentes y experiencias de vida.
